Get to know Dr. Nell Van Ymeren
ABOUT Dr. VAN YMEREN
Dr. Van Ymeren received her Bachelor of Science at the University of Waterloo and completed her Doctorate of Optometry in 1976 from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry. She received an award of excellence in contact lens fitting upon graduation. She has taken special interest in contact lens fitting as well as children’s vision and vision training. She has practiced in Oakville for over 30 years now. Her own practice is in West Oakville (Bronte) and she also practices occasionally in Mississauga.
She has been a clinical supervisor of students at the School of Optometry at the University of Waterloo for a number of years. She has served on the Children’s Vision Committee of the Ontario Association of Optometrists and has been on the Steering Committee of the Ontario Association of Children with Learning Disabilities. She has spoken to numerous school and parent-teacher groups, including the Oakville Parent-Child Centre and the Ontario Association of Optometrist seminars.
Dr. Van Ymeren is also trained in laser vision correction and co-management and is on the Advisory Board for the TLC Laser Vision Centers. She pioneered the first gas permeable and bifocal contact lenses in Canada and fits all of the latest types of lenses for patients of all ages. She does special testing for children with learning difficulties and does visual motor and perceptual training with children who have difficulties. If problems are found she provides vision therapy programs for them.
