ADULT EYE EXAMS
You might be thinking, why do I need an eye exam? The mechanics and structure of your eyes are always changing. How well your eyes work changes with age and time and sometimes some of these structures can even stop working. Regular eye exams allow us to evaluate the structure and health of your eyes.
Some eye diseases such as glaucoma and age-related macular degeneration can start and even get worse without you experiencing a single symptom. That’s part of what makes eye exams important. We recommend having your eyes examined once every two years. This way we can proactively ensure your eye health remains optimized. OHIP covers annual exams for diabetic patients, as well as patients with certain medical conditions. If it’s been over two years since your last eye exam, get in touch with our awesome eye health team to book an appointment.
KIDS EYE EXAMS
Early eye exams can help your child get set up for a lifetime of eye health and success. This is because good vision is one of the foundations of a child’s development and learning process. Kids are highly reliant on sight to learn even basic skills like walking, talking and reading.
We recommend that your child’s first eye exam should occur at six months old, and if we find no problems, you should bring them in again at around the age of three. Once your kid has started school, their eyes should be examined once a year. OHIP covers annual testing of children under the age of 20. And don’t worry, we do everything we can to make sure that your kids are comfortable during their eye exam by making them both fun and interesting. Part of that is to make sure they feel like they are an important part of the process. And of course, for our youngest patients, we use special testing procedures since they haven’t yet developed the verbal skills to provide us with the feedback we need.
SENIORS EYE EXAMS
Eye exams for seniors are especially important. While for some seniors, regular eye care can simply mean getting a stronger eyeglass prescription or switching from single focal lenses to progressives, for others, there are a number of degenerative eye diseases to be aware of.
At Bronte Optometry we recommend that you have your eyes examined once a year. OHIP covers basic annual eye exams for seniors over the age of 64. In addition to testing your vision, we’ll always do a comprehensive eye exam using our advanced technology and tools to look for ailments such as cataracts, glaucoma, age-related macular degeneration, and retinal detachments.
